Solo: A Star Wars Story Marks The Return Of An Old Master

Solo: A Star Wars Story

4 out of 5

Whether you've seen the movie or not PREPARE YOURSELF this is a spoiler heavy moment on my blog. You're going to get an adrenaline boost from this film. Not a perfect Star Wars story by far but a great story and a fun time at the movies. There's something about this film and it has nothing to do with Han Solo for some strange reason. Don't get me wrong, Alden Ehrenreic did a great job bringing us a young Solo and taking over the throne but he was far from what will make this movie the true gym that I see it as. There were times, I found myself saying "This is Han Solo now". Donald Glover as Lando was amazing. He captured Lando perfectly. I was stunned to see how those two met and really were not friends at all. Everything in Han's eyes when he tried to explain to us that they are friends in ESB but the look on his face, that doubt, makes so much more sense. These guys are not friends. They're unfortunate hustlers who have to deal with each other because of the surcomstances. The only link they really have is Ghost in the Shell of the Millenium Falcon.

Woody Harrison as Beckett was the perfect Obi-Wan like character needed to make Han learn that valuable "trust no one" lesson much needed to keep himself alive all these years. Shooting first wasn't something that came easy and in A New Hope it was first adopted hear. Emilia Clarke as Kira has become far more intriguing to me than I ever gave her credit for. Her decent into the darkside by her true master is what made this film a treasure.

Maul LIVES!

You heard me right, that Maul. The Maul. The Phantom Menace is back and he's been even more menacing than ever before. Old master, if you're familiar with Star Wars Rebels. He makes a surprising cameo in the film, lights a saber to keep the tradition alive and shows that he's ready to make his move. My theory is that it has something to do with the number one or being a lone survivor. Rogue One, Solo, Obi-Wan. I know that last one is a stretch but it sounds like Disney is planning something there with the number one. I do not know if the villain of the Obi-Wan film will be Maul. I hope not. I want Obi-Wan to be a shadow in the background while he brings together his two most deadliest enemies, Darth Vader and Maul. Its only makes sense. Maybe this is the reason Vader is slower in ANH than he is in Rogue One. Maul may do some significant damage.

I imaging that Maul may have a little face to face with Obi and then be confronted with Vader. Maul looks at the Sith Lord and senses Anikan telling him, do you sense another presents from your past boy?" hinting to Obi. "You won't live long enough to take your vengeance. His death belongs to me."

Or maybe it will be a triple threat match. Jedi versus Sith versus Force User. Maul is no longer a Sith, no where near a master. He's probably on a level of a Duku, a Ahsoka or Quigon. These guys were never really Jedi or Sith they were the ones who just followed the will of the force. Now Maul is too. He may be more Sith leaning but he follows the will of the force very well.

Will we see Ahsoka in Obi-Wan? I hope so as well. This movie has the potential to really wrap up this story between Episode III and IV really well. Time to see what Disney has instore.

What are your hopes?
