Margot Robbie Barbie Film Moves In The Works

Variety.com reports: Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ Film Moves Ahead as Warner Bros. Closes Deal With Mattel. Warner Bros. and Mattel have partnered to bring Barbie to the big screen. Margot Robbie is set to portray the live-action version of the iconic doll. Robbie will also co-produce the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, alongside Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara from LuckyChap Entertainment. Robbie has been quoted stating the following, “I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”
So what are your thoughts on a Barbie Movie starring Margot Robbie

I remember that Amy Schumer was taking on the project and now that Robbie is taking over, I feel that Warner Bros. were worried that her track record was poor since Trainwreck. I love her comedy on her show but her movies have not been hitting. Joy loves comedies. I asked if Barbie was coming to the real world in the film or vice versa what her thoughts are. It could be something hilarious, she said, or it could bomb.

I feel that if its still going to be a comedy, Robbie can be funny but can she be Barbie funny? Joy believes its something hard to bridge, because its been stated that it will be positive for kids. Will it be able to get to that middle ground where it was uplifting and funny.

I also say, cast both, Robbie and Schumer. Barbie has had so many jobs in her 60 years. I think it can be a Barbie Woke moment if done right. But will it translate to the mass movie going audience. There are a lot of people very protective of the Barbie brand. Its just a matter of getting the right cast and director. There's been plenty of animated movies where kids and adults loved like the Shrek series.

Maybe Mattel wanted a cleaner tone, based on Amy's adult humor. If she wanted to push the envelope this could have contributed to the switch. Joy feels like it will need a comedic side to the film to work for her but we'll wait for the trailer.
