Lights Out Movie Review

What's in the closet, what's under the bed. We've asked ourselves these questions before we really understood where they come from. This movie ironically sheds light on those feelings we have. The fear of the dark. When we hear a sound, that could just be the house settling, we turn it into the house settling to come to life and destroy us. From birth we create an alternative universe where the darkness is a living breathing creature that will someday claim our souls. Then comes this movie, which is quite a great piece of work. It did have a few jump scares that were in very effective places. You'll get tense you'll be drawn in the the darkness. The atmosphere of this film is like gravity that draws you into its deep dark secrets. The mystery behind the monster wasn't as original as it could have been but it pulls from the deepest secrets of the dark.

The acting from the little brother wasn't great, though you feel scared for him and want him to get away. His performance kept taking me out of the movie. He reminded me too much of the son from The Ring. Though I see potential, he's a much better actor that a lot of people out there. I just think this directed didn't get what he could have from this boy. The best performances were from Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello. I was also happy to see that the movie would open with the actress from the YouTube video that started this whole thing, Lota Losten, was brought in to set the tone of this film.

Over all I was very happy with the movie, I give it 3.5 out of 5. Check it out.
