Amy Schumer: The Leather Special

I recently was asked by a commenter on Youtube if the amount of negative reviews were based on a campaign to just be negative no matter what Amy Schumer produces. I know that with great success comes great criticism of how said success was achieved. There are many who find Amy Schumer simply unlikable. I do not encourage having such an opinion without merit. If you've seen a certain amount of her material and after careful consideration you come to the conclusion that you're not a fan, that's one thing. If your feelings for her or anyone is pure negativity only because of superficial things then you're just trolling.
Amy Schumers comedy is not for everyone but it connects with a lot of people. Her shoe on Comedy Central is a success, the skits, to me are more funny than not. The best part being the interviews at the end. She reaches out to guest that many are either not thinking of or overlooking. So there is a progressive attraction to her work.
The reasons why I rated Leather Special with a 1 out of 5 was because she's risen in standards and expectations since the rise of her popularity. This entire show was something I felt I would have laughed at 10 years ago or from footage of her from one of her young performances. Places in the perspective of what's she's already said and done versus her success, this material fell short. Kevin Hart was about to maneuver around this year's after it could have hit him as well. So have a lot of stand up comedians. More however fall, either because we have short attention spans and the new shiny comic is hot right now or the current mountain topper pulls a similar move as done with Leather Speicail.
Overall Schumer is better than this. She's lost ground with the fair whether Simi fans because it confirms what trollers and haters have relentlessly claimed or felt. A actor or director can rebound from a bad movie but a comedian can lose ground organically even if the material is great. If our attention span is a factor being great isn't enough, you have to stay on a path of better, evolving, changing, improving. The same jokes or jokes that are not as funny can derail.
Luckily she's reach a level to recover. But that doesn't mean the damage wasn't done. After her next special, movie or next season we will have a better view of whether this was a mortal wound or a hiccup for her career. I stand by my rating.
