All of Us Learning From The Mistakes of Shyamalan

After watching the film Us, the second horror by Jordan Peele. There were two things I realized. After one movie Peele has already started a fan base that looks forward to his films like a comic book universe. There were a lot of people saying "I can't wait to see the next Jordan Peele movie" something that usually take three or four movie hits to accomplish. Two, it feels to me like some critics are over hyping the aura around his genius.

Now, i believe Peele has proven to be a brilliant director. What he accomplished as a sketch artist to translate it to horror, I could tell he would not be a one hit wonder. What I mean by the hyping is that it seems that critics are looking to make a new genre of horror and make Jordan Peele the mastermind of a new movement for filming. I fear that the people who criticize him are giving him a instant pass because of the accomplishments of the first movie. This was the same mistake made about M. Knight Shyamalan, another director he is compared to a lot.

Was Us a great movie compared to Get Out? No. Not in my opinion. Is it a good movie on its own merit? Hell Yes. You should not compare the two and a lot of us are feeling that this would have served better if it were the first film instead of the second. I went in with a lot of Get Out baggage on my shoulders. This was a mistake. These are two different types of thrillers. As a director, once again, he's proven to be an actors director. He brings out the best in everyone. What he was able to get out of the children in this film proves that he is not a flash in the pan. I have no fear that Jordan will buy into any of the hype surrounding him the way I feel that M. Knight did posing on a magazine cover with the words, "The Next Spielberg" on it. If that were to happen, I would see it as more of a joke.

Learning from the mistakes of the past, I do not see Peele losing his way but time will tell. We'll have more perspective by the third or fourth attempt. Taking on Candyman and looking to do and not just his own original works is a sign that he is keeping a level head about everything probably due to his comedic background and the ability to laugh at himself.

I believe we can learn from the past and how we celebrity worship and over hype creative minds in the Hollywood/Hollyweird environment. People get a little bit too extra and start feeling themselves too fast. I do not find the logic in calling out Peele's movies as a sort of sub-genre. People all over medias and social medias are talking about the Us film in the terms of "I can't wait to see the next Jordan Peele movie" Not saying, the movie that is made by Jordan Peele but "The Jordan Peele Movie" in the same context as a Marvel Movie. We did not start saying this about Marvel till the Avengers film came out. That was when we new we were in a sub-genre of comic book films. It even took Shyamalan after Signs came out before we started testing the phrase "Shyamalan Film" and that did not last too long. I worry but I'm sure Peele will not go into the rabbit hole. Even M Night is starting to emerge out of it. Thank goodness.

Overall, this movie delivers but it was not as horrific as I was being lead to believe. It was thrilling and had some great moments but the ending may have been a little more predictable due to the trailers for me. I was not that blown away by it. Not like I was with Get Out. So go see this film, and get Get Out out of your head before you watch it. These two movies do not work in the same universe.

Who Should Be Casted In A Jordan Peele Adaptation of Gargoyles?

It has come to my attention that Jordan Peele, the director of Get Out, Master of Horror and OSCAR WINNER!!! Was in a meeting with the powers that be in Walt Disney Corp. The question came quick and probably before the coffee was pored. "We want to be in the Peele business" some guy in a suite who probably binged watched a few clips of Key and Peele on YouTube ten minutes before the meeting said. "Great" Peele replies, "I have some ideas". The poser leans back in his chair. "Go ahead, I'd love to hear them all". Jordan begins to dig his nails into the chair as if he was preparing to be taken to the sunken place. "I want to direct a Gargoyles movie".

For years, in my little circle at least, I've been seeing and hearing rumblings of a real life adaptation of the cartoon classic Gargoyles. If anyone remembers the original Disney Afternoon, Gargoyles was the bookend that came and changed the game forever. People call it a cult classic and with a small interest group but in a world where films have been green lit with less apeel, less buzz or interest and go on to become hits, I see that this is an investment that definitely worth the risk. The cartoon was darker and more violent than most Disney properties but so was the Pirates of the Caribbean and if they can greenlight terrible sequels to that, they should be able to pull out a decent trilogy by staying true to the story given to us by Michael Reaves and Lydia Marano. The story arcs, the mythology and the Shakespeare throwbacks were so intelligent and captivating. It was the first time that a kids cartooned tried to make adults out of its audience. I credit it mainly for my interest in Greek Mythology and Shakespeare.

It was ahead of its time and a true masterpiece of writing. Lets look at the characters alone for the evidence. You have Goliath voiced by Keith David, his voice acting career is mesmerizing. Him as Spawn only added to Goliaths intimidation factor. Elisa Maza, voiced by Salli Richardson, a half black half Native American police detective. This was before Obama, before the #MeToo movement, before the anti bullying. She was as tough as nails and was never a damsel in Disney princess type. She saved the day more times than I can count. David Xanatos was a bit of a cliche, more of a Lex Luthor type but with a higher sense of honor that reminds me of the methods of a Ironman as played by Robert Downey Jr. (Perfect casting by the way). Lastly, the immortal Demona, her cold heart and millenia of experience made her a tragic and lethal lady of death. Nothing was beyond her ability, magic, technology or both she mastered everything.

If only Disney would go the route of Deadpool and put out some test footage to gage the audience. Don't try to dumb anything down, that's not what works for this story. Learning the history of what stories and villains were based on was half the fun. Hearing the news that Jordan Peele was pretty much stalled out of the meeting without the benefit of a proper "no thank you" from Disney is evidence that they are just scared. If we only had the first three Pirates movies and Peele had the Oscar, maybe. If only The Last Airbender film did not get Sham Hamered, we would have our Gargoyles. Or maybe, just maybe, there's not enough real significant interest to justify it.

I'm still hopeful
and believe one day it will happen. If it were to happen within the next five years, here is who I'd cast.

Goliath voiced by Keith David I would want all the original voices for the gargoyles.
Rosario Dawson as Elisa
Margot Robbie as Demona
Robert Downey Jr. as Xanatos

Get Out Movie Review (Spoiler Bullets)

Get Out: Starring Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams. From the mind of Jordan Peele

We just saw the advanced screening of get out by Jordan Peele, the master of comedy . I got to say that movie was amazing and i love it. It was just like it was more of a mystery than horror. Also a psychological mind  thriller.

"guys we're going to do some spoilers so real quick, if you don't want to see spoilers, stop reading."

I  went thinking . . .I know what's gonna happen. I  was like "it's that guy, no its that woman, all of a sudden were all right. It was all those guys.

I think I think everybody did a great job at first I thought the




The father played by Bradley Whitford the guy from Revenge of the Nerds , you may remember him from the TV show The West Wing . I love that dude but I thought it was the actor from the TV show Family Ties when I saw the trailer. He came off like one of those guys who no he welcomes and accept anybody no matter what color they are but they're still some form of insecurity that pushes him and his friends too go over the top with trying to convince white people and people of color that he is accepting of everybody. Saying things like I would have voted for Obama on a third term was just not necessary when you're meeting your daughters black boyfriend for the first time. It makes it very awkward for black men and women and it's embarrassing for yourself . I've never understood why people have to go out of their way to make the audience comfortable with you , just be yourself . you do not have to try so hard to either pretend to be something you're not or enhance what you see as the good qualities and yourself to be accepted because both situations is just you perpetrating a fraud.

The thing I love about this movie is that it came off as a crazy mystery . it also gave a M Night Shyamalan type of field especially towards the end . not just because it was a Twist but because the twist was almost always in your face . that could be a matter for a race relations if you think about it LOL. The Twist is always right there in your face . Think about it.

There was a lot of funny scenes more than I thought they would be Lil Rel howery was  a breath of fresh air throughout the movie. Every time he into the scene it was as if an audience member was being transported from the moment that everyone was already aware of and our feelings and thoughts were being expressed in real-time through that character that he played . he really captured and peel captured in the writing a lot of unique things that black people think to themselves especially when they're in a crowd of white people that are going out of their way to be inclusive. It's a very tense and in some situations horrifying situation for some period it's specially some black introverts . being shy is one thing but capturing sinus, being flung into an awkward situation when it comes to race relations and interracial relationships all the while everyone is around you trying to prove how non-racist they are is in itself a very heavy and tense moment. Because even though you're trying to show this person you're not racist comma you're still asking him questions or speaking to him in a manner that you would never bring up at all to a white person period And I believe that was captured very well.

After the big reveal the movie still move forward as if it was going to give you the cliche horror movie don't do. That's some characters are forced because of bad writing period like going up the stairs instead of out of the front door , allowing the villain to convince you that they still care for you until they try to kill you again. And each and every time the rule was set up and broken up. I love that about this film .

A lot of the things that can build it on their TV show on Comedy Central made sense looking back. They did a lot of mockery of horror movies or Hollywood in general in the show. The production value was very well set up and you can now see looking back at those clips and skits that Jordan Peele probably had his hands and a lot of the development. I think both Key & Peele are going to go two places in Hollywood that no one's ever gone before let alone black comedians. 

One of the things that was brought up during the video interview was the idea that if Jordan Peele was able to get his hands on an actor at the quality of a Denzel Washington what would that look like . I would love to see something like that happen . I think Jordan Peele has proven that he is a man that can surprise you . as long as we're giving them the freedom to let his imagination take the wheel.


I'm not surprised dad blumhouse is the producer of another hit horror film. I want to reach out to Clark wolf from collider nightmares and spoke to her about the movie Whiplash and why that movie was able to push the same buttons that I would feel pressed and watching a horror. Without hesitation she tweeted back to me and enlighten me that it it's probably because it was produced by blumhouse. Blumhouse is becoming the staple, standard-bearer, the line that's drawn in the sand of how to create great horror movies. Everything that was done in the movie was on purpose. Jordan Peele spoke on interview saying that he snuck a lot of Clues throughout the movie that replace themselves upon the reveal that works great if you we watch the film. Something I intend to do repeatedly period

Go see this movie repeatedly. I believe that it will be better the second time I see it. Knowing how it ends and going through the journey and the tension again will be something I look forward to. The same can also be said about M Night shyamalan's film split. Knowing what you do know about that moving makes the experience a little greater. But just because you do know the endings gifts for the warnings allow your friends to judge for themselves if they want to be spoiled don't just assume. A lot of great movies are out there below hopefully there is some links to see them while they're still in theaters I will update once approval is set.
