I think it was a bunch of symbolism of today. The orcs represented minorities in general. That's how I saw it. There was one darker skinned female elf in the the elf town scene. It was more about white people representing more of the rich and powerful than just white and black. Most of the orcs were played by white people so it's was a blend of today's issues and social class stuff more than about race. As far as the wife, Dawn Olivieri, I noticed more interracial couples are being represented on tv than ever before. Maybe she gave the best audition, maybe it's a simple that humans in general are mostly middle and poor class despite race. She only has place the wife of a black man a few other times. House of Lies with Don Cheadle.
Over all I don't see it making a huge impact. But I would like to see a sequel.
